Created for his exhibition at the Tate Gallery in 1980, the poster is an excellent example of Hockney's expert draughtsmanship.
Created for his exhibition at the Tate Gallery in 1980, the poster is an excellent example of Hockney's expert draughtsmanship.
The poster reproduces Hockney's crayon drawing 'Celia in a Black Dress with White Flowers', 1972. Celia Birtwell has been a muse and friend of Hockney since the early 60s, and features in many of his paintings including ‘Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy’ (1970–71), one of Hockney's most celebrated and one of the most viewed paintings in the Tate Britain gallery.
